What Is a Sand Processing Plant?

A sand processing plant is an integrated system used to prepare, screen, and classify sand or mineral aggregates into specified particle size grades. Depending on the raw material, the production process may include crushing, material elevation, multi-deck screening, oversize recycling, dust collection, and finished product storage.

For pre-processed dry sand, material can enter the screening system directly. For raw stone or oversized aggregates, crushing equipment is added before grading. We configure each sand screening plant according to the feed conditions, required product specifications, and available installation space.

Sand Processing Plant & Screening Line

Sand Processing Plant Flow & Working Process

Our sand processing lines follow a continuous process from raw material feeding to finished product collection. Crushing equipment prepares oversized material, conveyors and elevators transfer the feed between processing stages, and vibrating screening machines separate particles into the required grades.

The process can be configured for direct dry sand grading, crushing and screening, or multi-stage mineral classification.

Storage & Loading

Raw Material Feeding & Crushing

Raw stone, crushed aggregates, or pre-processed sand are introduced through a feeding hopper or feeder. For larger feed sizes, a jaw crusher provides primary crushing, followed by secondary or fine crushing where required.

We select the crushing arrangement according to material hardness, maximum feed size, and the required particle size entering the screening system. Pre-processed sand can bypass this stage.

Material Conveying & Elevation

Belt conveyors transfer sand between crushers, screening machines, and storage areas, while bucket elevators lift dry material to elevated screen inlets or distribution hoppers.

We select conveyor dimensions, conveying capacity, lifting height, and discharge positions according to the production line layout. Buffer hoppers can be added to maintain a more consistent feed rate between processing stages.

Sand Screening & Multi-Grade Classification

The prepared material enters a gyratory screen, probability screen, or other suitable vibrating screening machine. Multiple screen decks separate the material through selected apertures, with each discharge outlet collecting a specified particle size fraction.

We use gyratory screening systems for fine silica sand, quartz sand, and multi-grade classification. Probability screens are available for higher-capacity grading of suitable manufactured sand and granular minerals.

Oversize Recycling & Product Collection

Oversized particles can be returned to the crushing stage when further size reduction is required. Qualified sand fractions are discharged separately and transferred to collection bins, silos, or downstream conveying systems.

For multi-grade production, we arrange separate discharge routes to reduce mixing between different finished product sizes.

Finished Sand Storage & Loading

Finished sand is transferred to storage silos, stockpiles, or loading stations. Belt conveyors and optional container loading conveyors connect the grading system with downstream material handling operations.

We consider discharge height, material flow, dust containment, and vehicle access when arranging the finished product handling system.

Main Equipment in a Sand Processing Plant

A complete sand processing line combines material preparation, screening, conveying, and product collection equipment. The machine combination depends on raw material characteristics, required product grades, and target processing capacity.

Sand Screening Mesh Sizes & Finished Product Grades

Screen mesh selection determines the particle size boundaries between finished sand grades. In a multi-deck screening system, different mesh apertures are arranged to separate material into the required fractions.

We select screen mesh sizes according to the feed particle size distribution, target grading specifications, and acceptable oversize and undersize content.

Common Sand Screening Mesh Sizes

Screen MeshAperture Size (mm)Aperture Size (µm)Application
8 Mesh2.362360Coarse sand and mineral granules
20 Mesh0.850850Medium sand grading
40 Mesh0.425425Fine sand classification
70 Mesh0.212212Fine silica and quartz sand
120 Mesh0.125125Fine mineral particle separation

The values are nominal sieve aperture references. Actual separation performance depends on the screen media, material characteristics, and operating conditions.

Multi-Grade Sand Classification

For a screening line using 8, 20, 40, 70, and 120 mesh cut points, material can be separated into the following nominal particle size fractions.

Silica, Ceramic and Foundry Sand Screening
Product FractionParticle Size RangeScreening Result
OversizeAbove 2.36 mmRetained on the 8-mesh screen

Grade 40.125–0.212 mmPasses 70 mesh, retained on 120 mesh
Fine FractionBelow 0.125 mmPasses the 120-mesh screen

The final product purity and yield depend on the feed distribution, near-size particle content, screening efficiency, and material flow conditions.

Sand Processing Plant Capacity & Technical Specifications

We configure sand processing plants according to the required throughput, number of product grades, material characteristics, and available site space. Our dry sand screening lines handle 10–30 TPH, with a reference screening range of 2–150 mesh.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Equipment Is Needed for a Sand Processing Plant?

A sand processing plant includes feeding equipment, vibrating screens, belt conveyors, bucket elevators, and finished product collection systems. Crushers are added when material size reduction is required. Dust collection, storage silos, and dewatering equipment can also be included according to the process.

How Does a Dry Sand Screening Plant Work?

Dry sand is fed into a vibrating or gyratory screening machine through a controlled feeding system. Different screen decks separate the material into specified particle size fractions. Each finished grade is discharged separately and conveyed to storage or loading equipment.

What Is the Difference Between a Sand Making Plant and a Sand Screening Plant?

A sand making plant uses crushing or size-reduction equipment to produce sand from larger stone or mineral feed. A sand screening plant separates existing sand into different particle size grades. We can combine both processes in a complete sand processing line when required.

How Many Sand Grades Can One Screening Line Produce?

The number of finished grades depends on the screen deck arrangement, mesh apertures, and discharge outlets. We can configure multi-deck gyratory screens to produce several particle size fractions in one screening stage. Additional machines may be required for more grades or higher throughput.

What Capacity Can a Sand Processing Plant Achieve?

Our dry sand processing line configurations handle 10–30 TPH. Higher-capacity systems can be designed using suitable screening machines and conveying arrangements. Actual capacity depends on feed particle size distribution, material properties, screening area, and required product grades.

Can Your Sand Processing Plant Handle Silica Sand and Frac Sand?

Yes. We provide screening and conveying systems for silica sand, quartz sand, and frac sand. Screen apertures, deck configurations, and processing capacity are selected according to the required particle size distribution and production specifications.

Can the Screening Line Connect to Existing Crushers and Conveyors?

Yes. We can review your existing crushers, conveyors, feeding equipment, and storage systems to determine suitable screening machine connections. Equipment dimensions, feeding heights, discharge positions, and conveying capacity are considered during the integration design.

Can You Customize the Production Line Layout?

Yes. We customize screening equipment arrangements, conveyor lengths, bucket elevator heights, discharge systems, and supporting structures according to plant dimensions and material flow requirements. Both new installations and existing plant upgrades are supported.

How Do You Control Dust in a Dry Sand Processing Plant?

Dust can be controlled through enclosed screening equipment, sealed conveyor transfer points, suitable feeding connections, and dust collection systems. We select the dust containment arrangement according to the material characteristics, processing capacity, and site requirements.

What Information Is Required for a Custom Sand Processing Plant?

Please provide your raw material type, feed particle size distribution, target product grades, required capacity (TPH), moisture content, and available installation space. Site drawings and material samples will help us recommend the appropriate screening and conveying configuration.
